On Tuesday, June 7th Virginia Tourism and the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce partnered to host a VTC Help Desk at Smith Mountain Lake Visitors Center. VTC tourism staff met one-on-one with 20 local and regional tourism businesses to assist them in developing their marketing plans and help them ‘Maximize Their Tourism Potential.”
These businesses included independent artisans, dining, lodging, retail entrepreneurs, and outdoor, event and attractions owners and managers. Businesses took advantage of Virginia Tourism’s education, development and marketing services and discussed best practices in reaching travelers, the media and increasing tourism visitation and spending.
Small business represents 95% of Virginia’s tourism industry. Tourism, one of Virginia’s most powerful industries, generates $17.7 billion in revenue, supports 204,480 jobs and provides $1.24 billion in state and local tax revenue to Virginia’s communities in 2009. At Smith Mountain Lake, tourism is important to the local economy.
Utilizing both the SML Chamber’s marketing message, ‘Smith Mountain Lake, It’s Closer Than You Think! and the ‘Virginia is for Lovers’ campaign opens the door for greater success.
