Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia (September 20, 2011) -Almost one year after Life Out Loud Films began principal photography on Lake Effects at Smith Mountain Lake, producer Sara Elizabeth Timmins is announcing the next film. She is teaming up with the Virginia-based, New York Times best selling author, David Baldacci, to bring his novel Wish You Well to the big screen.
Baldacci was an investor in Lake Effects and after witnessing how Timmins made the film, he approached her with his idea for Wish You Well. He saw the potential to take the model she used to make Lake Effects and expand it to impact the entire Commonwealth. “Life Out Loud Films’ model” is based on collaboration and creating win-win opportunities through partnerships. It is a unique approach that enrolls the community, promotes economic development and tourism, and enables the company to keep costs lower than typical while maintaining the same high quality.
David Baldacci is a #1 worldwide bestselling novelist. Baldacci’s first novel, Absolute Power, was made into a movie starring Academy award winners Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman. Baldacci’s novel Wish You Well was published in 2000 to wide critical acclaim and worldwide sales in the millions. The story is partly based on Baldacci’s maternal ancestors in Virginia. The novel is taught in schools across the country, and has been adopted by states and communities across America in their reading programs.
Wish You Well is a coming-of-age story set in the 1940s about a teenage girl and her younger brother who move from New York City to southwest Virginia after a family tragedy. Reviews of the book compared it to To Kill A Mockingbird. Baldacci recently sold a TV series project starring two of his characters from five previously published books, Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, to CBS Television. Shane Brennan, the executive producer behind NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles, is writing the pilot with plans for the King and Maxwell franchise to join the CBS lineup in the fall of 2012. Baldacci also has in development several other films for both TV and theatrical release. His latest novel, Zero Day, will publish on November 1 of this year.
Timmins began producing ten years ago and spent several years in LA producing indie films and acting before she relocated to Virginia to make the film Lake Effects. Lake Effects was written to showcase the Smith Mountain lake area and was shot entirely on location. The film stars Jane Seymour, Scottie Thompson, Madeline Zima and Jeff Fahey, with Casper Van Dien and Sean Patrick Flanery.
Timmins and Baldacci have been working in development on the project for months. They aim to complete the funding stage in the next several months as well as begin to pursue name talent. The film is scheduled to shoot in the fall of 2012 in Virginia but the exact location has not yet been determined.
